Message from the President:
 Since inception, the Kapo Seba Sangha organization undertaken community-based educational programs, established 15 community-based primary schools collaborating with the community peoples of the and finally BRAC came forward to support our valuable causes supporting cash and in-kinds in our educational programs since 2006. "Education is the spine of a nation" proverb is a true valuable word, no one nation can be developed without education. As our country is the poorest amongst the developing countries of the world, it is because; the literacy rate is so low in south-east Asian countries. So, to reduce poverty, first we need education, the education can be rendered the population into the  valuable human resources, skilled educated men and women can lead the country to the top developed  nation. For above reason, Kapo Seba Sangha trying to reduce illiteracy from the society by educating the marginalized extreme poor children, dropped out children and disadvantaged children by providing  non-formal and formal primary educational facilities, re-schooling and supporting their families in our development  programs to increase their income so that  their children can continue their education and  rebuild their lives.
 The marginalized community peoples do not access to required information on the scopes of obtaining free health, sanitation, education and other development ,  further, the extreme poor people do not have the spare of time to go to the Upazila and district head quarter to have such health related information for their ill family members for better treatment and when their patients become serious at that time they have to take them to the district hospitals and need much time and money to reach to the district hospitals/clinics, to manage  such amount of money can be collected by selling their only beasts. On the other hand, if the only incoming family members are engaged with the patient's treatment, the other family members have face hunger without sufficient food.

The mentioned above situations/problems are always evolved the rural poor families who need complete free health care service at their door steps, so I would like to encourage the health service-providing institutions to go and provide health facilities to the extreme poor peoples of  backward communicated areas of CHT.

 In conclusion, I thank to BRAC, DANIDA and NGO Forum for their financial and in-kind supports to our development projects and I also thank to our patrons, individual donors and the members of Kapo Seba Sangha KSS who contributed to the development project under taken by this organization and hope to receive the same contribution from you in the future.













1. Non-formal primary education program
Kapo Seba Sangha continuously implementing the non-formal education providing primary educational facilities to the extreme poor children   class 1 to 4 and 5, age 8-12 years in the schools established by support of BRAC and KSS.This educational project / activities are conducted in Bogachadar and Longadu union with   the hired teachers, the objective of this education project is to provide primary education and to make fit to re-schooling the dropped out children age. The school management committee (SMG) monitors the entire school activities including raising awareness on the local families to send their children to the schools instead of engaging them in household works. Executive Council (EC) of Kapo Seba Sangha also together with Project Implementation Committee (PIC) monitors and evaluates the ongoing school activities.
Kapo Seba Sangha implemented a non-formal primary education project which was a  continuous project started since 2007, the main objective of this project is to reduce illiteracy rate and to  enhance the quality of education and creating a learning environment for the out-of-school children; especially  disadvantaged girls, dropped out and working children  of Chittagong Hill Tracts.
  By the side NFPE educational program, the target children learn how to sing national anthem, physical exercise, indoor and out door games, song and dance, and puzzle etc. Rate of students’ attendance is satisfactory; teachers are regular and conduct classes maintaining child education friendly environment. Parents are happy to send their children at school regularly and observing progress of their children’s’ education. But they comment, curriculum of school should be as per CHT context (language, culture). Under this project a total of 150 children received educational facilities and their parents/guardians were motivated.

Project Objectives:
·        to enhance capacity of the community for effective management of non-formal primary education,
·        to provide primary education to 150 targeted indigenous children, and
·        to develop a mutually beneficial collaborative network of formal and non-formal primary education providers.
Project Duration: Began in 2007 and continued
Project Beneficiaries: 150 students (boys and girls) of 6-11 years old including drop- out children.
Project Location: The project with five schools covers five villages (Pagla Chara,  Garao Bitar para, Obitchalita para, Mongprue para and Tulachari para   )  under Alekhyong Union of Rowangchari Upazila in Bandarban Hill District.
Funding Source(s): BRAC
Project Features: Basic education-reading, writing and arithmetic and other extra curricular activities- education how to sing national anthem, physical exercise, indoor and out door games, song and dance, and puzzle etc.
Achievements:
·        Enrollment of children in primary school increased
·        Child labour decreased (previously the children accompanied their mother in jhum cultivation)
·        Literacy is at incremental rate  
·        Parents being aware about the importance of education  send their children to   school
·        Parents get the opportunity to discuss their community problems and solidarity among the community people developed
·        Children are in good hygienic condition
·        Community ownership built  in school management 
·        Networking developed with concerned government and non-government   education department.
·        Upazila education as well as district education officer is more proactive n regarding improvement of education system especially primary education. 
Some issues/challenges faced, measures taken:
·        Difficulties faced to set up schools by the community at the beginning of the project
·        Community people were reluctant to sit for the meeting
The above problems were settled through continuous motivation with the community leaders –Karbari , Headmen and other people.



       
2.HIV/AIDS Program:
Kapo Seba Sangha KSS implemented a HIV/AIDS education project - by raining public awareness on HIV/AIDS virus transmittance from one person to another through blood and sexual cohabitation, education were provided to the community peoples  to prevent spreading of transmissible virus of HIV/AIDS. Kapo Seba Sangha KSS conducted the program collaborating with Maitre-Bangladesh holding community-based meetings/workshops at village level targeting the peoples of the project areas- especially for   the youth and adolescent, the community-based youth groups was formed with the educated youth and adolescent to conduct and spread the information of the HIV/AIDS preventive knowledge learned from the program and to distribute leaflets to adjacent villages.
3. Water, Sanitation and hygiene Promotion Program:
Kapo Seba Sangha KSS continued the community-based hygiene promotion, water and sanitation education programs along with other development programs- raised awareness on access to safe  water, purification process of  streams and pond ( purifying by boiling and in other systems) to make  free the dinking water from diseases carrying viruses and protect themselves from water born diseases. The sanitation education provided to the community people of project sites to use hygienic latrines, practice sandal use getting into the latrines and  washing hands with soaps after evacuation , practice behavior change by using sanitary latrine, not to practice open space evacuation, keeping clean around  the houses  and schools. The said program conducted by organizing workshops and raising awareness on these issues
4. Horticulture Training:
Kapo Seba Sangha KSS conducted horticulture training to 20 poor farmers providing sapling production, planting, caring and watering the sapling/plants including distribution plants. The mentioned above training provided to 25 poor farmers in 2 batches .One batch 13 and another batch 12 trainees, 15 days in a batch. The 21 trainees received practical skills in theoretical and practical methods; the purpose of this training is to make the poor farmers into the good skilled gardeners, increase their agro-based income by applying the modern scientific agricultural technology hi-bread fruit production, grafting and sapling production systems.
5. Health education program:
Kapo Seba Sangha KSS conducted a school-based health education project in Atharakchara union providing relevant health education to the students and their family members including distribution of dewarming tablets. The program conducted by organizing workshops at the Kapo Seba Sangha KSS schools and raised awareness on primary health, nutrition and personal hygiene promotion and to protect themselves from malaria and a total of 13 workshops were organized in 3 villages and provided health education to more than 20700target population with funds raised from the organization's patron and members..  

Project Title: Hygienic and WATSAN Program

Kapo Seba Sangha KSS conducted a hygienic and watsan project The main aim of the program is to improve hygienic awareness and proactive roles among the community people especially the poorest people. The program is being implemented in two unions (Alekhyong and Taracha) of Rawangchari by two union facilitators. Kapo Seba Sangha KSS believes that at first the community people must be motivated to realize the importance of Hygiene, sanitation and safe water. Therefore, organization undertook awareness program. In regular parents’ group meetings and in village development groups the community conduct group discussion, informal training, which includes other development issues. Now majority people are habituated and practicing personal hygiene and drink safe water. But in most of our other working areas there is severe hardship of water supply. 
For more successful implementation of Hygiene, sanitation and safe water program Kapo Seba Sangha KSS arranged TOT on hygiene and WATSAN for two staff, conducted by DANIDA


Project Objectives:
·        Healthy behavioral changes and increase of using safe sanitary latrines
·        Drink safe water

Project Duration: 15 months ending in December, 2010

Project Beneficiaries: 1000 poor families   covering 20 villages

Project Location:Two unions (Alekhyong and Taracha) of Rawangchari Upazila.

Funding Source(s): GOB-DANIDA through partnership with Humanitarian Foundation

     Project Features: Awareness on the importance of Hygiene, sanitation and safe water held in regular parents’ group meetings, informal training which includes other development issues. Installation of ring well, tube well, Gravity Flow System and Deep Tube wells. The project has also repaired the disordered tube wells/ring wells. Pit latrines set up are yet to take place.

     Achievements:

·        All the target families avail safe water
·        Almost 70% target families are aware on environmental health and hygiene behavior.
·        Water borne diseases decreased. Thus expenses in this respect reduced.

Some issues/challenges faced, measures taken:
·        The community people were reluctant at the beginning to contribute voluntarily at the rate of five taka per month to meet the repairing cost of water sources. Through continuous dialogue it was made successful.




 . Development Initiative to promote Transforming Youth and Adolescents (DIPTYA) project:
KSS has been implementing a skill development project- providing job-creating skills development (mushroom and swing skill including social mobilization, motivation and encouraging to undertake income-generating schemes collectively) training to 200 disadvantaged youth and adolescent in Bandarban Sadar Upazila since June, 2011 which will continue 2012-2013  partnership with Manusher Jonno Foundation. The total target people of this project are the 200 disadvantaged youth and adolescent and we already provided services to 100 target group members in 2011.

Objective: To build skills development of 100 youth and adolescent
 To increase income of the disadvantaged youth and adolescent through transforming them into human resources
Outputs:
·         100 youth and adolescent target group members received mushroom production and
swing training skill.
The 100 target group member became self-employed and was able to earn livelihood income through application of the skills/lesions-learned from the project.

Project Features: Providing mushroom and swing training including awareness raising, motivation, social and etc.

Achievements:
·        A total of 100 youth and adolescent received income-generating skill development training (mushroom production and swing trainings)
